Etymology:
While the word itself is rather old, it was recently made famous by an advert from Safaricom (A mobile service provider) which read "Bamba 50". It originally came from Swahili word "Bamba" which means to catch. Back in the 80s, the word was used to describe something that has gripped one. It later changed meaning in the late 90s to mean overwhelm - specifically in the case of girl's beauty overwhelming a man.
